Lessons

Music is such a powerful language and I love teaching it to students of all ages. Music theory, ear training, and technique are a main part of my curriculum, but I build each lesson around the individual student’s needs and interests. I teach beginner, intermediate, and advanced students with an emphasis in rock, pop, blues, R&B, funk, and country. It brings me great joy to watch my students grow and work hard towards their musical goals.

I have taught children in the Dominican Republic with the organization Beyond Borders as well as taught privately to students in Iowa and Nashville, Tennessee. In August 2021, I brought my students into United Action for Youth in Iowa City to record their original songs.

Student Policies and Rates

When I begin working with a new student, I always start with an Introductory Lesson. This lesson is used to gauge a student’s strengths and potential areas for growth, access music theory knowledge, and discuss goals for private instruction. We will also formulate a plan of study based around favorite musical styles and interests.

1\2 hour Introductory Lesson is $40. There are no other ties to the lesson, no pressure at all! If you wish to continue, we will go on to schedule a block of lessons.

A block of lessons is scheduled and billed in a group of 4 weekly lessons at a time.

1 hour weekly lesson – $400/block

45 minute weekly lesson – $300/block

1/2 hour weekly lesson – $200/block

Payment for a block of 4 lessons is due at the beginning of the first lesson. I accept cash, check, Venmo or PayPal. Late payments are subject to an additional $10 fee.

*sliding scale available depending on financial need

* group lessons are a possibility and special rates for families
* depending on travel time, I may need to add a travel fee

Non-weekly students are students who are not taking an introductory lesson, and do not schedule a block of lessons, instead only scheduling one lesson at a time. This service has an additional cost when compared to that of regular weekly students. Rates for a non-weekly student are $50 per half hour lesson and $85 per hour lesson.

Online Lessons

Conveniently study electric bass, voice, piano, or guitar from the comfort of your own home.

Scheduling is incredibly flexible. Perhaps you live in a rural area and lack the time and availability to travel to a teaching studio regularly. You could be looking for a fresh perspective by taking a few lessons with a new teacher. You might just want to take a lesson here and there, without the added inconveniences of time, traffic, and travel costs.

I teach online via Zoom and Skype.

Please contact me first before paying so we can discuss scheduling. See above lesson rates.

Cancellation Policy

Things come up, and sometimes your private lesson needs to take a backseat to other things. This is completely understandable and happens to all of us!

If 48-hours’ notice is provided before a cancellation, you will not be billed for the time and we will schedule a make-up lesson as soon as possible.

If I do not receive 48-hours’ notice on a cancelled lesson, you will be billed for that lesson’s time slot, and unless requested, we will not schedule any make-up time. If we do schedule a make-up lesson, you will consequently be billed for 2 lessons that week.

Occasionally I will have to travel for work. In those cases, I will either teach weekly students via Skype, or re-schedule the lesson for when I return.

Excessive absences will result in losing reserved lesson slot time. I have limited time and high demand from potential new students so time slots will be given to students who are able to commit to their musical growth.
